I think life at home with Grant is just now starting to become more like what new parents experience when they arrive home with a new, healthy baby--crazy, yes, but a normal crazy.
We're so thankful: Grant is doing great; Shan is being an all-star mom; Shan's mom (now a Grandma!) has been such a big help; friends from Genesis (our church) are providing us with meals; and it is sunny today (perhaps the biggest miracle of all given that it is January in Michigan).
Our only real problem is that Michigan lost the Rose Bowl. Oh, and we need more sleep. A lot more sleep. But that is a normal rite of passage for new parents and is nothing worth taking up cyberspace to jabber on about.
Since we're normally not big bloggers, our posts will be a bit less frequent going forward. We'll put up some pictures, perhaps, and we'll definitely give updates on our next four big hurdles:
1. Follow-up appointment with our cardiovascular nurse practicioner, Katie, on 1/11/07
2. First appointment with our cardiolist, Dr. Cotts, on 2/08/07
3. Grant not needing the feeding tube in his nose (he grows stronger)
4. Grant graduating from the oxygen tank (lungs heal and high pulmonary blood pressure gone)
Thank you for continuing to pray for our family!

in the mean time, we're always here if/when you need us & we'll continue to pray for strength (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) for the whole fam... Shannon & i love you all!
Hi Gang,
We will send the prayer requests, regarding appts. and graduation from the equipment and healing of lungs and pulmonary Blood pressure gone...
Our church is Mountain Life.org...if you have any special needs, just forward them...I will also have Rog bring these needs before his men's group and my women's group. We have not prayed beside this precious child to let go now...and we also will be lifting up You two...his parents...for continued reading of His Word...to comfort you ...
Too bad about Michigan...but with 4 Shaws from Michigan State and only one U of M fan (our youngest Mike)
and Rog...Ohio State...have to say...next year!
We look forward to new beginnings...
Love,
Sheila and Rog and family
ps...heard from your Mom and Dad Jim..
sounds like they are rubbing elbows with Tim Allen's staff as well as walking a tough walk with this new treatment...Knowing your family is in his Kingdom...is a comfort to us...as suffering is only for a season...Joy is forever.
Love,
The Shaws
Hi Shannon and Jim,
We are so happy that Grant is home! What a wonderful New's Years blessing and miracle! It has been uplifting to read your updates and know that God has held you and Grant in His strong and loving arms. The faith and God-given strength you have shown have been a blessing to all who have logged on and prayed for you through this journey. Amazing how when we are weak, He is strong!
My nephew (Lauren's cousin) was born at 24 weeks and we experienced all the challenges my sister went through with the medical care at home. I know how exhausting it is! God will give you patience you did not know you had, and we will pray for more sleep! We look forward to hearing about Grant's progress over the next few weeks and months.
By the way, until tonight I never even thought about the fact that you were at U of M hospital - I knew Grant was flown there, but I kept thinking you were in Birmingham. I feel so bad that we didn't come and visit you! But I am thankful you are no longer in Ann Arbor, and are enjoying your precious boy in your home!
God bless the 3 of you, and I can't wait to get a Christmas card next year with a picture of a healthy, happy 1 year old Grant!
Love, Marcia Mitchell (and Lauren too!)
Shannon,
i will update our CORE at CBS tomorrow. I know you have your hands full, but what a blessing that little Grant is!!! Peace to you and your family in this new year. Julie Whitmore
Normal crazy is great! Sleep deprivation rocks! Coffee = love. I hate to continue with the stupid cliches but sleep when Grant sleeps. Get your sleep where you can. You'll be back to 8 hours/night in about a year or so. Rory and Tiger slept through the night sometime around 9 months, Allegra was a little sooner because she never took a pacifer. -Er
I meant sleep when Grant sleeps.
we were just talking in the Milan church office about you guys. thought i'd let you know via your blog, so you your ears don't burn. we love your writing, think you're all awesome, and thank God for you and what he's doing in your lives.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year gang! I've been keeping tabs on your blog and am thrilled to see all this progress! Grant is so lucky to have you two for parents. I can tell alredy what dedicated, loving, optimistic, faithful parents you are. After all this there is nothing you can't conqour (except maybe the teen years.... I'm terrified for those) May 2007 be a year of healing, strengthening and memory making for your family. Thinking about you constantly!........ Now I must go nap (yes my kids are 1 and 3 and I still sleep when they do!) Love ya'll
