Today Grant had an EKG, eco and lung x-rays. The results of these tests will tell us more about Grant's progress and when we get to go home. We are currently waiting for the doctors to come in and interpret the results for us. We are so thankful to be going home soon. (Sometime this week, most likely.) But, at the same time I have to admit that I am overwhelmed. Today a man came in and explained to us how to hook the oxygen tank up for our car ride home...I put the feeding tube down Grant's nose for the first time today.. and I learned to give him steroids through his little mask...
We are so thankful for his progress, but it is begining to sink in how much care he is going to need even at home. The good news is all of this should be temporary. We'll let you know as soon as we hear from the doctors on our official departure date.

Dearest Shannon,
I know it must seem overwhelming but ask a lot of questions, take notes, make sure you understand and, of course, it is always possible to hire a pediatric home care nurse to help you at home until you and Jim feel totally comfortable in managing Grant's care at home. The good news is that it's only temporary!
Don't forget to call on friends and family to help in any way we are able. God bless you and Jim and may He continue to give you His rest and peace as He continues to heal Grant. Kathy R.
Hi Shannon, Jim and Baby Grant,
Don't be overwhelmed by Baby Grant's special needs right now. As you get your strength back Shannon, and Baby Grant gets stronger also....these duties will be as routine as brushing your teeth...and will fade into distant memories. Stay in the Word...it is better than any words we can say to you...God will not abandon you as you learn new ways to provide for Grant on a one-to-one basis...
By the way...All new Moms and Dads..feel a little overwhelmed...and you have had some real challanges....but Trust HIM...just walk on...you have a hedge of protection given by the Holy Spirit over this journey as a family....
We continue to pray for an "overwhelming" awareness of His presence as you meet Grant's needs.
Love,
The Shaws
shannon - i know you can do it! you are so awesome and you always lean on god - he will help you take care of grant! please let me know if you want a visitor - i would love to come see you. love you all, amy
Wish we were there to help. It's always hard to go home with a new baby, and you have much more to cope with than most of us. Grandma Jane always said that God fits the back to the burden. I know you can do it.
much, much love from all of us
Just like someone else said, caring for Grant will soon become as normal as brushing your teeth. (Which I hope you do every day!) And as it's only temporary, soon you'll be up to your ears in dirty diapers and spit up and all those other wonderful infant things. Love, Er and Co.
