Grant had another good day. He was able to wean off the nitric entirely today! Unfortunately, his body isn't totally able to adapt to this change yet, so they had to add viagra (yep, it has many uses) to his medication list. Without understanding all the details I guess it is better to be on viagra than nitric, so this was a positive development.
Another positive element of the day is that he was able to eat breast milk for the first time. They fed it through his nose and he seemed to be digesting it just fine.
The hardest part of today was seeing Grant gag on the ventilator several times. When he wakes up from his sedation he starts to squirm and this moves the ventilator and makes him struggle and gag. If he has a good, attentive nurse she notices this right away and takes care of it. But, have been a few times in the last couple of days that the on duty nurse wasn't paying attention and I had to go grab her and bring her back to his bedside. (Each baby in the PTCU has one on one nursing attention so this really shouldn't happen..)
Current prayer requests:
1. For attentive, loving nurses
2. For Grant to wean off the ventilator smoothly
3. For Grant to wean off more of his medications
4. Thank our gracious God with me that Grant is progressing so well!

still praying. we thank God for what He's done.
Yay for breastmilk! I'm so proud of you guys! It may be a little difficult -- eventually -- to get him to nurse directly on your breast, but you'll get there. I'm so glad to hear he's doing well. Love, Erika the 'Breast Is Best' Nazi and my fam
Great to hear the good news, and continuing to count it a joy to pray for Grant and you guys. And you're still welcome at hoops on Monday...just let me know if you want to track down some kicks for you, if you get the green light.
We are so happy to hear the great news!! I am sure it is tough to be in your shoes but hang in there! Sounds like baby Grant will strive for the best just like his mom and dad. You are in our daily thoughts and prayers!!

Thank you for taking the time to keep us all updated.
Love you guys,

I just talked to some midwife friends of mine... Viagra increases blood flow, which is what he needs right now. And, a bonus, what a great story to tell his wife someday! Love, Erika Dustin Rory Tiger Allegra
