We had such a great day today! It began at 1:30am when Jim rolled over and said, "Did you feed him?" (We have still been getting up every 3 hours in the night to feed Grant due to calorie issues and it had been 5!) We must have accidently turned our alarms off. Even though we'll have to wait a few more weeks until Grant gains some weight to do this again, it felt great to know that Grant is capable of sleeping 5 hours in a row and it sure was a treat for the two of us!
We spent the morning putting together our jogging stroller, then all three of us bundled up and went for a jog together. When we got back Grant took half of a bottle fully awake. We are thanking God that Grant is getting better every day!

Hi! I love the picture of Grant. He is so cute! He looks great!
I just wanted to say hello. My name is Jen and I live in Indiana with my husband Chris, son Reis and Sam. Reis is 4 1/2 years old. He also has TAPVR. He has had 3 open heart surgeries and now is doing wonderfully! The first year was so hard, but now he is doing great. I remember feeling like I was in a blender the first year...but it does get better! Reis is now healthy, happy, and oh so ornery =) He does have some residual lung issues but developmentally and socially he is right on target. I just wanted to say hello and let you know we were here if you needed to talk. Karin Coulter gave me your name from Saving Little Hearts. Take care and god bless you and your family.
I forgot to leave my email address
from the above post....
thank you
Jen

Hi, Karen Coulter with Saving Little Hearts passed your blog site on to me. My son Maxwell had TAPVR repair in 2 surgeries in 2003 and 2004. He is 3 1/2 years old now and no one would know he has any medical issues, even though his left lung has never developed fully. I see that he gets tired out or breathes harder sometimes but to others he's perfectly typical.
We had lots of feeding issues that first year, too, but right around a year that began clearing up, and after the second surgery he was eating fine without throwing up any more.
I agree with Jen that the first year is a blur, not helped by the fact you're waking up every few hours to feed your baby), but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and when you get there your life will be much more like that of other moms with typical kids.
I just want to encourage you and remind you to take care of yourself and enjoy the good moments like your stroller outing. I am happy to answer any questions or tell you more about Max if you're interested.

Dear Shannon, Jim and Baby Grant,
We KNOW you both needed that sleep, and you know what...I think Grant did too!
We are praying for full bottles all day, so all the family can sleep at night...Sweet dreams.
Love,
S & R
Shan,
He looks so cute in the jogger! :) I am soo so excited that you guys got to do that today! I can't wait until we can go to the pool in the summer and swim with him. It must have been so cool for you and Jim to take him outside today...it's like having a healthy baby! woohoo!
See you next weekend.
Love,
Aunt Lindsay
Hi Shannon,
LOVED the poem....for every Mom, but expecially for those of you who have suffered in many ways to meet the needs of your precious baby.
We are so glad to see there is a support group of parents who have "walked the walk" and come out with everyone intact. We lift up each and every parent before God and ask HIM to give each of you special blessings, only HE can give.
Love,
S & R and family
