Our feeding experiences with Grant are up and down--some are easy (15 minutes of peaceful bliss) and some are really tough (2 hour marathon last night). Remember our marching orders from the doctor--he must eat in order to heal! So we have to do what it takes to get him to eat beyond what we might normally do if he weren't recovering from his surgery.
The good news is that his behavior has been markedly different since the breakthrough a week ago (see March 1st & 2nd posts). It seems to us that his body is indeed all better--he isn't in pain when he eats, the acid reflux is gone (or in-check) and he isn't throwing up at all. That has been consistent since last week. However...it appears that his mind hasn't yet recovered--he has been conditioned to believe that eating causes him pain, even though it no longer does. So when he is awake and alert, feeding is a war 7 or 8 times out of 10. When he is real sleepy and doesn't realize the bottle is in his mouth, he calmly chugs his full feeding lickity-split.
So please pray that Grant would un-learn his bottle beliefs so he could begin to eat in peace.
Thanks for all of your continued support and prayers! We think we're in the final rounds of this battle and we are so appreciative of you for sticking with us the past 3 months.

Hi Shannon, Jim and Baby Grant,
Ah, the joys of parenthoood....our baby is fine but has learned some responses that he does not know how to change...We have all been there...how about music? Are there certain songs that lift you and may soothe Baby Grant? We have one grandchild who has music on all night...her Mom has cable and puts on light classical, christian, or easy listening...if she wakes up ...it puts her right back to sleep...might work for bottle time...We pray for peace and discernment and some relaxed shoulders...at bottle time.
Love,
Sheila and Rog
I am so proud of the dedication you two have put it...I so admire it! Remember that children are innocent, and only know what we teach them. So the longer you show him the joy and necessity in eating and nourishing our bodies, his sweet little brain will change and grow. I have full confidence!
In my prayers, tiff
Will continue to pray for you both to exhibit peace and contentment and not stress at feeding times too. He is so cute by the way and not looking like a newborn anymore!

What awesome news about Grant's health! God's healing is amazing. An anecdote to hopefully encourage you...
When we went to China to fetch our 1 year old daughter, she had a major issue with textures (not to mention hating us perfect strangers). She also struggled with bottles -- she would hit us while we tried to feed her. There were moments when we didn't believe she would ever eat normal food. She wasn't even on the weight charts once we made it back to the States -- she was very malnourished.
One day -- several weeks after we were back home -- she willingly put a pasta noodle in her mouth. My wife cried, I didn't move.
Fast forward several months to our pediatrician not believing her own charts when she saw that our daugther had not only made it onto the weight chart, but had gotten into the middle-range!
Now, when it comes to food, our little girl is a regular 2 year old -- likes what she likes (a lot) and puts her nose up at other stuff. The point is, she's happy, healthy and thriving.
The Living God has brought Grant (and you both) this far, He will not leave you now. One day, Grant will turn his nose up at some carrots and then scarf down a milk shake and you will smile as loving parents do.
And then you'll make him eat his carrots.
