Today Grant is treading water. He is still on 13 medications to keep him stable. He is also sedated and on a venilator. Any movement thus far has caused his pressures to drop, so they keep him totally immobile. They have not even attempted to change his dressings because they are afraid that the small amount of touching may make him unstable. His chest was kept open in case another emergency surgery is necessary and it is very important to keep that area clean so as to not risk infection. Please pray for him tonight as they attempt to change the dressing over his heart.
When we met with the doctor tonight he said that Grant is progressing slower than they would have liked or expected and that the lungs continue to be a concern. We are not sure what exactly that means and were too tired to ask. While he has not made any significant improvements today, at least there have been no major setbacks. Tomorrow they are going to attempt to reduce his nitric level. Please pray with us that his body will adapt to this with ease.

Shannon & Jim,
We are praying for you and your little baby boy. I know that God is watching over you all. We may not know this side of heaven why He is allowing this to happen but there is a purpose. I wish I could be there to give you a big hug! love, Jaime

Hang in there Shannon. Keep pumping breastmilk. I know it hurts a little at first but it's the absolute best nutrition right now for Grant. Also, keep in mind that YOU are still recovering from his birth. Make sure you are still eating (protein, calcium) and drinking water and continue taking a prenatal so that you are getting all of your dietary needs met. Okay I'm done being a doula now, and I can say I continue to pray for all of you. Rory and Tiger and Allegra send you their love! -Erika
Isaiah 53:4
Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows... We feel Grant in our hearts. He is right along side of each of you. I pray that the Holy Spirit would intensify in and around Grant, bring healing and strength and drive out infection. Let it be done.
With love B&I
Shannon and Jim,

Shannon and Jim,
You and your son Grant are in our prayers. I am a friend of your mom from Seaholm Class of 1966. My husband and I send hugs and kisses to all of you. You are at the best place for treating this condition.

Shannon & Jim,
Grant and both of you are in my prayers all throughout the day. I know God is watching over you all. Stay strong in the Lord.
Godbless, Sean
You are in our prayers, and obviously surrounded by love!
Natasha, Andy and lil' Alexandra
I've been forwarding your updates to doctor friends of mine here to help me understand all that's going on with Grant. Ravi talked with the Pediatric Cardiologist at Loyola here in Chicago about Grant. He said that the doctors at U of M (most likely the one who did Grant's surgery) is probably the best in the nation if not the world. Grant's in good hands!
Baby Grant,
May your loving Father be your protector and safe keeper during this time in your life. We are praying for you along with so many who desire to surrond you with their prayers. May he give you peace as the doctors and nurses take care of you.
Shannon and Jim,
I am a good friend of your brother Bryan. I want to send you a short note to let you know i am thinking and praying for baby Grant. I hope you and the family are well. Stay strong.
Love&Light,
Sarah Gordon
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.
Let Israel say: "His love endures forever." Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever." Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever."
In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and He answered by setting me free. The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me? The LORD is with me; He is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.
All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me.
The LORD is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right hand has done mighty things!"
I will not die but live, and I will PROCLAIM what the LORD has done.
The LORD has chastened me severely, but He has not given me over to death.
Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter.
I will give You thanks, for You answered me; You have become my salvation.
The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you.
The LORD is God, and He has made His light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will give You thanks; You are my God, and I will exalt You.
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.
Psalm 118 (NIV)
Shannon, Jim & Baby Grant,
We are sending all of our love to you and like many others are keeping our fingers crossed for Grant.
Lots of love

Shannon & Jim:
May our Lord God be your strength. Claim His promises: "By His wounds we are healed". We are praying for Grant Samuel and you both. Wise words from your doula friend, don't forget to take good care of yourself, Shannon, it's the best thing you can do for your baby (aside from pray) at this point. Zach and Michael pray every night for baby Grant as Michael puts Zach to bed (so sweet). We love you and can't wait to meet the miracle God has blessed you with.
