Grant: On Tuesday we went back to Beaumont to get follow up chest x-rays to make sure Grant's pneumonia was gone. Unfortunately, the x-rays show that his lungs are no different than when he had pneumonia two weeks ago, even though he isn't showing any symptoms. The doctor said that this is okay, because sometimes even after the symptoms go away it takes a while for the lungs to heal. Please continue to pray for full healing for his lungs.
Shannon: Remember the ankle that I sprained 4 months ago? Well, I've been doing physical therapy ever since I got my cast off and it still doesn't feel better. So, after visiting the doctor twice in the last week they've decided that surgery is my best option. So, on August 30 I'll have ankle surgery to repair the torn ligament. I'll then be in a nonwalking cast for 2 weeks, followed by a walking cast. I'm wondering how I'll keep up with Grant since he is only days away from being "on the move"... Gosh, when I told God I needed a break I didn't think He'd take me so literally. :)

Shannon,
I feel your pain---almost---mine was the broken foot that needed surgery. God doesn't always give us the help we're hoping for, does He?
Voice from the trenches---I know you used crutches with the cast the first time. I couldn't master crutches when I was in my non-weightbearing cast for 6 week, so my Dr. wrote an order for a Roll-about. It looks kind of like a folding stroller with a platform to rest the bum leg on and then you push along with your good foot---has a brake, too, so you have some control, but it has no wheels that turn (I tried the brand that has swivel front wheels and it was too mobile).
Positive---you will have a free hand to manage Grant. Negative---you need help from a 2nd person to go up and down steps. Maybe a combo of both would be the answer.
Also, I got a bath stool (Walgreens has them), a cast cover---heavy plastic sleeve with a "pull-up ring" and rubber gasket at the top (Kathryn got it at the med. supply store, but drug stores may sell them too) and a hand-held shower head (Walgreens) that really helped with bathing.
When you "graduate" to a walking cast, or whatever the Dr. orders, just smile---don't jump for joy :)
I'm rooting for you,
Janet
