It's exciting to think how far we've come in the last 6 months. Exactly 6 months ago at this time Grant's vitals were dropping and a ventilator was in his mouth. I was recovering from giving birth and preparing for our first born to have open heart surgery. It's amazing to look at him now- almost 30 inches long, sitting up on his own and smiling at everyone who walks by. I'm so thankful.
This week has been the hardest for me since the first week of Grant's life. Both Jim and my parents were out of town. Feeding Grant is still an ongoing battle. On average I spend about 8 hours a day trying to get him to eat. I'm so enjoying our time together between feeds and wish so much to have more "fun time" in our days. I dread feeding Grant and even with all that work he has not met his caloric goal in about a month. He actually lost a half a pound this week.
We see the pulmonolgist this week and based on the results will be closer to narrowing down why Grant doesn't like to eat. The feeding disorder clinic is looking like a better option more and more each day. We just have to rule out all other health issues before we go. Please continue to pray wisdom and endurance for us and total healing for our baby.

Hi Shannon,
Wanted to recommend a great baby food book for you- it contains great information for making super healthy (and vitamin fortified) baby foods as well as other great money & time-saving tips! It's called Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. I am praying for Grant to desire his bottle and enjoy his food.
Much love,
Suzanne & family
You have been through so much in the last six months. Grant will one day thank you for all of your diligent work, time and prayers you have put into every calorie! It is so exhausting struggling with something that should just be so "natural" for him. Hang in there. God will get you through each day. We are praying that you good but helpful news from the pulmonologist.
Hi guys
I got this blog address from Kimberly Stoll via a prayer request. I just wanted to tell you a bit about myself. I was born w/ a heart problem and have had surgeries. Well- 6 if you count the one that is ongoing- daily- by the master surgeon himself. I wanted to encourage you guys as parents. As a child w/ health issues it was difficult BUT... it was just part of who I am and it makes me who I am. Now- at the old age of 40...i have a child of my own w/ his own disabiltiies (cochlear implant, severe adhd, some autism....) and I think it is harder on the parents than the child at this stage because, as I said, the child is who he is...and has never known any different. I don't remember much of many of my surgeries. I had 1 at 3 months, 1 at 3 years, 2 in 4th grade and one when I was about 30 yo. And - like I said- the 6th one started in my early 30s...the one by Jesus himself. It is ongoing, and on certain days the most painful- but oh so sweet as well.
Keeping you guys in our prayers. If you want to talk more my email is lapain.amy@sbcglobal.net. I'm going to try and sign in here w/ my blog but it is

Oh- I go to UofM pediatric cardiology myself. they used to have an adult congenital place there w/ Dr. Rosenthal who retired. I adored him- now I see Dr. rocchini. I have heard Bove is the BEST surgeon. I had all of my surgeries done at Children's but that surgeon is gone now as is my favorite Dr. there- thus I made the switch...

Shannon, try soy milk in a sippy cup. It has more or what a human needs than all the chemicals in milk or formulas made by mankind(lessness):-( Just keep trying a little each time ya feed him. Soon he will be reaching for his sippy cup. If he sees you drink it and sees it on the table sitting there. Love'n'Prayers~Ruthie
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear Grant...and May God Bless you!
Sorry we were out of town on his big day...
We see the food battles ending...
Love,
S & R...
Our youngest was a "failure to thrive" baby....I made home made baby food and although at six months ...he still looked like a refugee...at one year...He was one healthy gorgeous little boy!
