Our First Bottle Victory

Grant drank his whole bottle for the first time yesterday!!! It was my coolest mommy moment ever. It took over an hour and he wasn't happy about it, but he did it. We used our special new Haberman bottle that allows us to control the flow and Grant seems to like that better.

Since then he has not had a full bottle. The OT thinks he kind of lost his suck because of all that has happened. She says he has developed a floppy tongue, that would rather play with the nipple and let the formula dribble down his face. So, we're still syringing about half the bottle. But, I am hopeful and can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

My throat is starting to hurt, so please pray that Jim and I stay healthy in the midst of this marathon.

Shannon, Jim & Grant
Glad to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel for you.
The Haberman bottle that you are using is the same one that Nicholas had to have before he had his cleft palette repaired at 9 months old and he got on really well with it. The lady who designed the valve is an English woman who went onto develop a fantastic training cup called the 'anyway up' cup which went onto be a huge success over here, both of the boys came off the bottle at 12 months and went onto these cups because they were so good. Obviously they are really easy to get over here and I would be more than happy to send you some.
Have a good weekend

Jim and Shannon -- It was great to meet you this morning at Genesis. May God strengthen you and heal Grant in so many ways. You guys can do this!

I looked back a couple of days and saw the picture. That is one handsome son you have.

Take care.
